James Collip Monument Unveiling

The Dr. James Bertram Collip Memorial Committee and the City of Belleville are unveiling a monument to recognize the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin and to celebrate Belleville native Dr. James Collip. The monument will be set in the Dr. Collip Courtyard and Reflection Garden along the shores of the Bay of Quinte.  The unveiling ceremonies will be held on October 16th at 11 a.m. and will include public events at the site with dignitaries, special guests from diabetes organizations and insulin manufacturers, and guest speaker and Collip biographer Dr. Alison Li. A reception and address by historian Dr. Christopher Rutty will follow.

2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, highlighting the collaborative effort that U of T and its affiliated hospitals and industry partners took to develop, advance and distribute this life-saving treatment to millions worldwide.
